When the Nazis take her mother in the Jewish roundup in the Polish Norwogrodek ghetto, Halina, 13, escapes to the forest, where she struggles to survive with 300 other Jews who are being led by local partisans.  This dramatic story of escape offers insight into the will to survive.  Ages 10+.
