Set during the depression era, 10-year-old Allie Sherman's family moves from New Haven to Stamford, CT, where her father has found a job. Excited about her new address, 12 Strawberry Hill, Allie conjures up an elaborate picture of juicy strawberries dotting the landscape. But her expectations are deflated when the street looks ordinary, devoid of strawberries. As Allie navigates the challenge of fitting into a new school, she struggles with new peer relationships and is confronted with anti semitism for the first time. As the school year progresses, she learns to confront others while finding comfort and friendship in unexpected places.
