Young Mark loves everything about his new house except one "scary" picture that his parents took out of the closet -- a stern looking picture of his namesake and great, great grandfather, Avram.  Mark's opinion changes on Rosh Hashanah when his own beloved grandfather recounts the story of Avram in the Russian shtetl.  Avram taught his grandpa how to blow the shofar.  The story comes full circle two years later when Mark blows the shofar during the Rosh Hashanah service in his own temple.  This is a story about immigration, Rosh Hashanah and contemporary Jewish life, all in one richly illustrated book.
